Dear Apes:
If you’re just joining, here’s the basic deal: a few years back, I recalled an interview I’d read with Cameron Crowe, where he mentioned that he makes a mixtape every month. I thought “cool,” and decided to try my hand at it.
Starting in January of 2015, I did just that, pulling together whatever I was listening to, whatever was new and interesting to me, and what I knew was mixtape gold into a series of Spotify mixes shared on my tumblr, which I was hashtagging “Mix-a-Month.”
Later that same year, I decided to give it a more interesting name, so I went back to my years as emcee for the great NY band Skelter, and came back with The Steel Ape Sessions, and well, it stuck.
Migrating off tumblr in solidarity when they began banning adult content, I wound up here with a url and everything, and well, long story short, here we are six and a half years AND ONE HUNDRED MIXES LATER.
